Mental Wanderlust...

An eclectic mix of mainly Central Asian and former Soviet Union news, plus a few weirdities and random articles that have caught my eye while wandering through the internet. Occasionally personal, mostly topical, generally intelligible, infrequently ranty and sometimes even entertaining - for a certain target demographic, at least... This blog is currently mothballed and currently (March 2010) I do not have any intention to start it up again. This may however change in the future.

Pushkin in tabloid scandal

Considering the usual reverent tone used when Russians (and Russophiles) talk of Aleksandr Sergeevich Pushkin, it is a tad unusual to find an article in the Russian press (and Pravda of all places) entitled «Тайные записки А. С. Пушкина»: ай да сукин сын! (This could be loosely translated as "The secret notes of A.S. Pushkin": Oh, What a Bastard! for non-Russian speakers). Truth be told, the subject of the article is more the book's author, Mikhail Armalinskii, who, judging from the review, is a little obsessed with sex and sexuality, including, yep, you've guessed it, Pushkin's. It's more a tabloid read than decent autobiography of Pushkin, but, as the review notes, that just creates more interest.

The Russian magazine OM also has some interesting articles, including one about sex in the USSR (recalling the legendary phrase "U nas seksa net") and one about Zveri's lead singer, Roma Zver' (this will mean absolutely nothing to most people - Zveri is a Russian band which has been doing some very radio-friendly music for a couple of years now - official website is here, and you can listen to tracks from their second album "RaionyKvartaly" here). Interestingly, or more accurately, utterly randomly, their site also has a Big Red Button...

Time to return to the more serious business of newswrapping...

You will be interested to visit Armalinsky's site http://www.mipco.com
Besides his books you will be able to read his outrageous journal General Erotic. Don't underestimate Armalinsky - it a great author.
